Friday Is Party Time

Well the kids have been working hard and have earned another party. We decided to do a combo for this Friday, January 13th. It will be a pajama/toy day. They can dress up in their favorite pajamas and bring ONE toy or stuffed animal to school with them. The toy or stuffed animal will stay in their backpack until the end of the day for the party where we will do an inside recess and the kids can play with their toys. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Hey all,

The homework packet was late this week as there was a printing error. The PDF is up on the right now though!

Thanks,
Aaron

New Homework!

You might have noticed a change in the homework packet. By popular demand, the homework packet will now go home on Mondays and be due that next Monday. In the event of a Monday Holiday, it will just go home the next day.

Most everything about the packet is the same except for reading. You now have 100 minutes to read for the week and it can be broken up any way you want. We prefer them to read about 20 minutes a day so this will enable you to do some on the weekend if you want or not at all depending on your schedule. For extra math practice, have them count up the minutes they read a week to get to one hundred.

As always, contact me with any questions! aaron_albert@centennial.k12.or.us

Pajama Day

As a class we have been working hard and earning party balls. We have earned a second party so today, 10/21/11 is Pajama Day. They can bring a pillow, blanky, or stuffed animal, provided it can fit in their backpack.

New Classroom Library

Hey all, got a video here of my new classroom library. It has been one big project, but I think it will be definitely worth it in the long run. I don’t know the exact total, but I believe there are at least a thousand books in there.

I have sorted them into four categories, non-fiction, chapter books, picture books, and the “other” category of comics, poetry, and drawing books. Each category is color coded in yellow, blue, red, or green respectively. Then I go a step further with subcategories such as Dr. Seuss, Judy Blume, Franklin, and others. To help keep the books in the tub, each book has a picture that corresponds with the appropriate tub and is also color coded to boot. I’m pretty excited about it. Here is a video (my first for BC) taken with my new super cheap video camera I got at Big Lots for thirty dollars. Great deal for what I’m doing here. Enjoy!

New Digs!

Well with the move to a new school, new classroom, and new grade (same district) it seemed appropriate to change things up here a bit on Misteralbert.com. I went blue this time to coincide with our school colors. I’ve been working in my classroom a lot already and things are shaping up in Mister Albert’s Superhero Room! I am super excited about my new library that has around 1000 books in it, all organized and looking slick. Thanks to my wonderful wife Heidi for helping me label all those books.

I’m really excited for next year and can’t wait for things to start!

MP3 Players

We are starting a new privilege in Room 25 and it is being able to use MP3 players during quiet work time. Here are the guidelines for how students can keep this privilege:

1. Check in with me – Students need to give me the MP3 player in the morning and I will lock it in my closet.
2. Headphones – MP3 players need to have some kind of headphones.
3. Keep the volume low – music needs to be played at low levels.
4. Appropriate for school – content of the music needs to be appropriate for school.
5. No distractions – music only please. Stay focused and get to work.

If a student disregards any of these rules, then the privilege will be taken away. Again, this is a privilege, not a right and is something I’m doing to help those kids that have a hard time focusing during the quiet work time. It worked last year, but that isn’t to say it will work again this year. I’m confident though that kids will be honorable and stay focused.

Hey all!

Been a bit quiet on the video front but never fear! Here is a tidbit about the math homework for this week. Give it up for my stars Dymond and Daniel, with videographer Ziyon behind the camera.

RESPECT + Homework

We have been having some issues with respect in the class. Mainly in our respect towards each other. We spent most of today talking, reading, writing, and practicing showing respect. Using words like “thank you” “please” “excuse me” and “sorry”. I’d love it if you’d join me in talking with your student about having proper respect in and out of school. I’ve changed up the homework a bit and to help me explain it is Filip and Elyse with video work by Daniel!
